I’ve been inspired to write about my online persona. She’s a level 110 Pandaren Shaman by the name of Katalyna, which coincidentially is one of my nicknames. Funny that. 😛 I thought I might start writing her story, her background. I like creating stories for my characters, it brings them to life for me and gives me an extra reason to want to play them.
The sun beat down on the academy. The young pandaren girl fidgeted as Master Shang Xi walked back and forth, explaining the day’s sparring. She had been practicing in all her spare time for this and she was sure that he’d see her potential today. She was going to be the best monk ever, it didn’t matter if she was one of the smallest cubs! And then she would learn to brew, and then she’d be the best brewmaster ever! And then, she could have adventures… but she’d have her adventures on Shen-zin Su, the wandering Isle, thank you. She had to stay here for Mamma and Pappa.
“Kata!” Master Shang Xi called, pointing at the young girl. Holding back a squeal, she stood and walked as regally as possible towards the old Master, bowing before him. “Jojo!” he pointed at the tallest boy in the class. Inside, Katayuena shivered. He was also the strongest, but, she would be tough. “Remember what you have been taught. Begin.” Master Shang Xi sat down, watching the two cubs as they pranced around each other. Katayuena reached forth and struck at Jojo with her right paw, intent on smacking him before using her left leg to sweep him down.
Unfortunately for the young girl, she underestimated Jojo’s large size. She barely touched the other Pandaren, and he laughed at her.
“What’s the matter, Xiaomao? Can’t reach me?” Jojo taunted. His taunts spurred the young cub to fight fiercer and harder, but every time Jojo managed to side step her as she struggled to hit him. Soon the other kids were jeering her as well, and the taunts of Xiaomao! Xiaomao! Were echoing throughout the area. Master Shang Xi had stood and was attempting to bring order back to the other cubs when Katayuena screamed.
“I’M NOT A XIAOMAO!” she screamed. Her right paw finally connected solidly with Jojo’s chin, and smoke began to raise where she had hit him.
“Ow ow ow ow! She set me on fire!” Jojo began to beat at his fur where Katayeuna had struck him, dancing around. The flames refused to be beat down as she stared at him, her eyes flashing dangerously.
“Fire!” the other cubs around her screamed. In their panic, one of the cubs had pushed her down, knocking the ire out of her. Looking up at Jojo, she saw the fire starting to burn in his fur and she gasped.
“Oh no!” She cried. She lept up and moved towards Jojo, intent on helping him but he danced back away from her.
“NO!” he screamed. He continued to frantically beat the fire in his fur.
One of their classmates, a Hozen who had recently been welcomed into the academy, pulled on Katayuena’s arm, pulling her away from the scene. “Dirty wikkit, ook you in the dooker they will. Run!” he cackled, gleefully.
Katayuena didn’t need to be told twice. Scared, she began to run away from the academy. She didn’t know what they’d do to her for setting fire to Jojo but she was too scared to find out.
Several days later, cold, tired, and hungry, the little Pandaren Cub was wandering along the edge of the Wandering Isle known as Shen-zin Su when she saw a rickety old boat. Sniffling, she quickly began to tug at the boat towards the edge of the great wandering turtle. She managed to pull the boat into the water and after climbing in, she began to cry as the boat slowly began to drift away from the only home she had ever known.
*Xiaomao is Chinese for Kitten. In this case, Katalyna is one of the smallest cubs and she hates being reminded about her size. The others are using it as a taunt.
