Hey y’all, back with another chapter of my little story. Is this something that you’re interested in me continuing to post?
Please let me know 🙂 And now, Chapter One!
It was a dream unlike any that Marcus had ever experienced. It felt almost real, the breeze surrounding him and the sun beating down upon his back. He stood at a cliff, staring out over the world below him, his body bare.
Well this isn’t like any other naked dreams I’ve had before. He thought, staring out at the world below him.
Nay, it would not be, my child. A voice said beside him. He turned around, and saw nothing.
“What the hell?” he said aloud.
Thou dost stand upon the edge of wonderment, my child, and it is time for thee to reach forth and claim that which I have given you. The voice said again. The soft flap of wings directed Marcus’s attention to his left and he watched as a raven gracefully landed on the ground next to him, settling itself down on the ground.
“Uh…” he looked around again for any hidden cameras, or anything that would show him that he really wasn’t dreaming about an archaic sounding raven talking to him while he stood buck ass naked on a cliff.
Thou art confused, my son. The voice emanated from the raven, and it tilted it’s head to look at Marcus. I understand thy confusion, but I ask thee to be patient whilst I explain thy destiny.
“Y’know, with all the thees, thous, and thys, this is starting to sound like a bad fantasy story.” Marcus murmured. He looked head on at the raven, and shrugged. It was just a dream, right? May as well play along. “All right, what’s this destiny then?” he said, crossing his arms.
To understand thy destiny, first I must tell thee a history of how it came to be. The raven flapped it’s wings, before settling down a bit more comfortably. Once, this world was a haven. Then it caught the eye of the Demon King, and he sent his Mistress Chaos here to make the world his.
My brother and sisters and I banded together to fight against Chaos, and together we were able to drive her and her foul children back. But once the mind of the Demon King is made up, it is made up and he is determined to have this world as his own.
My brother, sisters and I decided that we wouldn’t allow this. However, in the last direct battle between Chaos and ourselves, the world was nearly destroyed. Mankind itself was driven to almost extinction. We decided then that we would submerge our essences into four gems, and only work through our agents throughout the world.
“Your brother and sisters?”
Aye, my son. My brother is that which rules over the essence of Fire itself. My sisters are the cool leaves and damp soil of the Earth and the crashing waves and calm rivers of Water.
“So you’re air?”
Indeed. I am the very essence of the Air that you breathe, of the wind that blows, of the birds in the sky. And you, therefore, are my son and Guardian. It is through you that I am able to fight against the agents of Chaos herself.
“Ok, now I know this is whack. I’m just some little kid from Central Los Angeles who got lucky in school. I’m not some elemental warrior or any of that shit.”
The raven next to Marcus seemed to laugh. Nay, my son, thou art not a warrior, or a weapon to be wielded as such. You are my Guardian, the last one in a long line of Guardians that have been marked from birth to serve me. Your time has now come to fully embrace that birthright.
“Wait, what happened to the person before me?”
In the battle against Chaos and her children, his life was lost after a long and fulfilling Guardianship. I will miss him, as I have missed those who have passed before him.
“Woah, wait a second. If that means I’m going to die, thanks but no thanks. Not interested.”
You have no choice, my son. You will be joined in this battle with the Guardians of my brother and sisters. Even now my brother cries out in pain as his Guardian has also died in the same stroke by Chaos, and he is imparting the words of wisdom to his new Guardian even as I am. The raven launched into the air, flying a circle around Marcus before coming to land on his right shoulder, digging it’s talons in. You will need to find your brother and sisters before the month is out, my son. I have the utmost faith in you.
“Why so quickly?”
Chaos has found a way to break down the enchantments that we have placed upon our gems where our essences live. As long as you are alive, that enchantment will remain, but she will be doing her best to find you. You will need the strength of my siblings and their Guardians if you are to survive. You will find one of your sisters on the morrow, I have arranged for that.
“I don’t know what I had before I went to bed tonight, but this is a crazy assed dream.” Marcus muttered. The talons of the raven dug in deeper, and he could feel blood starting to run down his chest.
I have told thee. And now it is your time, my son, my Guardian. A bright light surrounded Marcus and the Raven.
“What the…” Shooting straight up in bed, Marcus looked around at his bedroom. There was no sign of a raven, or a cliff, or anything. He gradually became aware of a trickle of blood trailing down his chest, and in a panic he moved to the bathroom. He could see clearly on his shoulder three puncture wounds from where the Raven had dug it’s claws into his shoulder in his dream. The trickle of blood began to fade, and slowly on his dark skin, he could see the outline of a raven begin to take shape. He watched in amazement as the shape darkened, filled in, and soon he was left with a tattoo of a raven on his shoulder, one of the wings coming across his chest. He turned around and craned his head, and he could see the other wing curving down over his shoulder, the very tip of it brushing his spine.
He blinked, rubbed his eyes and blinked again. He didn’t have a tattoo before he went to bed! Stumbling back to his bedroom, Marcus sat down and put his head in his hands, thinking about what he had just dreamt and the new evidence on his shoulder that his dream was more than ‘just a dream’.
