Just because she’s short doesn’t mean she doesn’t have an Alpha personality! 😉
Now, there’s a few things I want to say before I get started on the Hunters themselves. I don’t play one in live, but I thought it’d be a good thing to spend some time with them, and I have no idea what I’m doing.
That being said, Katale here is a Gnome Beastmaster Hunter – mechanical pets ftw! You know the drill by now – bars, loot, etc. Summon my pet after changing my spec and I’m disappointed to see it’s a wolf and not a mechanical bunny. 😦
I have no idea what I’m doing so I went with stuff that looked interesting. One with the Pack, Dash, Exotic Munitions, Intimidation, Big Game Hunter, A Murder of Crows and Stampede. Now, a bird named Snowfeather has delivered my message, so it’s time to see what these Hunters want!
Emmarel Shadewarden is a member of an order named <Unseen Path> but she’ll tell me about that later. First, she wants me to find someone to aid – need to get a shiny weapon for all this Legion Killing, right? So you run around and talk to a dwarf, a tauren, and a high elf. The dwarf’s got the weapon I’m keen on – Titanstrike.
I return to Emmarel and tell her I’m going to help the dwarves. I forgot how adorable Gnomes can be as I skitter around Dalaran, haha. This is my first chance to get to see the Vrykul of Legion, as one is helping Grif to break into a tomb. Inevitably, Brann has managed to to make friends and… I see my first Storm Drake.
I must have one of them when this game goes live.
Grif Wildheart’s pet is a bear named Theodore. Cute. 🙂
So we meet with the Vrykul lady and she wants nothing to really do with me unless I can help her. And someone has broken into the tomb already to steal stuff, so the spirits are unhappy. So, there’s ghosts.
Once you kill the first couple of ghosts, you then have some traps to make your way through. Then, the Vrykul (Prustaga) starts to clear some runes and there are a bunch of mobs that attack. Now, I don’t play a hunter so I have no idea how it’s like for Beast Master in live but I felt underwhelmed. I felt like I was struggling to find things to do as well with my shots. I changed some talents (went for Chimaera Shot instead of Exotic Munitions and Way of the Cobra instead of One with the Pack) and found myself doing slightly better and having a bit more to do. And, I realized I can use Dire Beast once every 10 seconds. And Kill Command. Whee!
So, once that’s done you end up clearing a few more mobs, that are mechanical in nature, and then… Suddenly, Mimiron. Mimiron’s image unlocks the box that Titanstrike is in, and the ghost of the Vrykul who’s tomb you’re raiding wakes up and goes ‘mine!’
So of course, you fight him.
After you’re done, Prustaga gets excited, stuns you and Grif, and steals Titanstrike and goes to Northrend. Mimiron reckons this doesn’t do at all, so he pulls you through with a transporter into Northrend, specifically: Ulduar.
Mimiron wants to track down the gun, so he asks you to help. The last time I was in this room and failsafes were activated, I spent a lot of time dodging fire. I’m a bit nervous about this.
Fire. Fire everywhere… you have to dodge it. And then you have to dodge lightning sparks. And then press the red button – NOTHING GOOD COMES FROM THE RED BUTTON.
Or it does. And then you find out that the Vrykul lady is seeking out Throim. So, we fly in Mimiron’s head to the Temple of Thunder in Northrend and we fight off some Vrykul and then we fight Prustaga. She’s absorbed Titanstrike’s power and you need to take her down. Luckily you’ve got Grif and Thorim on your side.
So you take down the Vrykul and then a massive explosion happens! Turns out Thorim’s lightning wolf, Hati, has absorbed Titanstrike’s power. You then need to bond with her, and once you’ve done that, she becomes a permanent pet. Kinda cool. (You can still have other pets as well!!) You return to Dalaran and go off in search of Emmarel again to find out a bit more about what this Elf lady wants.
She mentions that her order has watched the Broken Isle for eons but now they need more help. She asks that you meet her in Highmountain to assist her. So take the free flight and to Highmountain we go! When you get there, Emmarel tells you a bit about the order and you run into Halduron Brightwing and Veressa Windrunner who vow to stand with the Unseen Path. You take a vow with and become the head of the Unseen Path. As I began to wander along the lodge (it’s a hunting lodge, complete with heads on the wall and everything!!) And the sheer amount of known hunters within the game who are congregated here is amazing! You have dark rangers, Rexxar, Shandris, and you even have two adorable Gnome hunters as well!
I’m going to have to level a hunter just to hang out in the class hall!
I really enjoyed the throwback to Ulduar and seeing a non-corrupted Thorim and interacting with him. I also thought it was great that both Mimiron and Thorim kept referring to Grif as “Bronzebeard” – maybe that’s a title they’ve given all dwarves? hah. I think if you have a Beastmaster that’s a Gnome or a Dwarf, this will work out well for them… as there are definitely certain ‘feels’ to all three of the Hunter quest chains. Ah well.
Next up, my Farstrider!
