Here’s part four of Avarice. It’s a bit slow going but since I’m in the process of using Avarice to weave a tale, I hope you’ll forgive me. Also note, that I say something that may seem a bit weird about a demon not seeking to screw someone over who has signed a contract. Because The Banker is dealing in Contracts, he tends to stick to the letter of them. Less chance of losing when it’s brought before any sort of judiciary committee… or agents of Heaven. 😉
The next day, Susannah played the lottery numbers that The Banker had given her, and just as he promised, she won the five million dollar jackpot. Aislin took her to the lottery commission the next day to pick up her winnings, which turned out to be more like two and a half million. Susannah was very disappointed, but Aislin shrugged. “The government has to get theirs too. Don’t worry, The Banker may be a demon, and he may live in Hell, but he’s not going to screw you over. You signed a contract!”
After Susannah was presented with the rest of her winnings, Aislin took her directly to the investment firm that The Banker had instructed them to go to. Without an appointment, the duo soon found themselves in the office of one Mr Stewn, a long time acquaintance of The Banker.
“Aislin darling, long time no see.” He leered at the half-succubus, who smiled charmingly at him.
“Mr Stewn, a pleasure as always. May I introduce you to Susannah Marie Templeton. She’s one of The Banker’s newest associates.” Aislin purred, her smile going from friendly to seductive quite quickly. Mr Strewn returned Aislin’s smile with a brighter one and Susannah sighed. Aislin couldn’t see a man without starting her seduction kick. Susannah couldn’t count the number of men that Aislin had ‘taken just a moment to speak to’ before disappearing for ten to fifteen minutes, coming back with a bright smile on her face. When Susannah had asked the succubus why she seemed so insatiable, Aislin had muttered something incoherent and changed the subject.
“Ms Templeton, a pleasure. The Banker did suggest that he would have someone coming to see me.” Mr Strewn tapped a few keys on his keyboard and turned the monitor around. “The Banker suggested that you place two million of your winnings into this investment account, while you keep the other 500,000 for personal expenses.” He pointed to a few fingers on the screen. “This account will earn you a hefty return. Using the contacts that The Banker has in place, we can turn that two million into ten by the end of the year.” He smiled brightly. “Mostly legal, even. Untraceable back to you as well.”
Susannah blinked. She was already richer than she ever had dreamed, but the numbers on the screen made her want to purr. “It’s March now… so that’s nine months.” She frowned slightly and turned to Aislin. “He didn’t say I had to keep my job that long.”
Aislin shook her head. “Only for a little bit, to establish yourself a bit more. Everyone will want to know about you once you start becoming better known, and if they see that you worked still while letting your money be invested, they will think of you as independent and self-sufficient. This gives you the opportunity for both The Banker and for you to decide how else to supplement your riches… either a rich uncle has passed away, leaving you millions, or you find yourself a rich husband… that’s all up to you.” Aislin smiled slightly. “The machinations of Hell can be complicated!”
Susannah groaned. The last thing she wanted was to remain a check out girl when she had millions at her disposal. “I guess…” she nodded at Mr Stewn. “The Banker seems to know what’s best. He’s already started to come through for me.” She handed over her banking details to Mr Stewn and together, they rang the bank and authorized the movement of two million dollars from Susannah’s account to an investment account with Mr Stewn’s firm. He then directed her to put all but fifty thousand into a high yield savings account with the bank, explaining that she would generate interest which would help supplement her income. After all was said and done, Susannah walked out of the investment firm, her bank account having dwindled from two and a half million dollars down to fifty thousand, but the rest of the money was now working for her.
Aislin, of course, had asked for a few extra minutes with Mr Stewn, and even now Susannah could hear the sounds of moans and groans coming from the office. She sighed and sat down in the reception area, tapping her finger on her chin and thinking while Aislin finished her ‘business’. Once the succubus came out of the office, subtly wiping her mouth, Susannah rolled her eyes.
“I need you to contact The Banker for me please, Aislin. I think we need to put a long term plan in place.”
“Sure! Let’s head back to your apartment, where we can do a bit of house hunting as well. He’ll have some ideas on what he wants us to do.” Together, the two women went back to Susannah’s house, brainstorming on where they would like to live.
