This will be the last post this week on Pride. Starting Feb 1st, we will begin our focus on Sloth. I’m trying to get the hard ones out of the way (Gluttony, Pride, Sloth) because I reckon Greed, Envy and Wrath will be the easiest. (Tomorrow, I’ll probably waffle on and on as it’s the last day of the month and I will have done this every day, for a month!)
Pride is apparently the worst out of all the Seven Deadly Sins, so tonight I shall take a path through all of them. For those who have been reading my blog posts, you will recognize the Prince of Gluttony and his Bride… and I’ve even given you an introduction into the Banker, my Greed Demon.
He didn’t like to work hard. It made his life much too difficult, and he preferred to laze around, reading a book or watching a television show than going to work. Some days it was almost too much effort to even get out of bed, so he would lie there, doing very little. It wasn’t that he was suffering from depression or anything like that, no. He just honestly, couldn’t be bothered.
In Hell, the demons of Sloth perked their ears, and then went back to lazing about. They almost couldn’t be bothered, either.
However, he began to see just how much his friends had, and that they had begun to amass houses, cars, wives and children. He would sit there in his self imposed almost exile and complain bitterly to himself about what his friends had, and what he didn’t. “It’s not fair!” he would say, jealous of the things his friends had.
The demonesses who controlled Envy would push and shove at each other to hear him complain, their green eyes glowing with every pronouncement.
He grew angry at the world, and began to push his better off friends away from him with rage and painful words. He let his jealousy finally overtake him and let it turn to anger and rage, and he would curse at his friends for always wanting to go out, and do things, and he never had any money to go out with them. He hated his friends, and grew so angry at them. How dare they!
The Wrathlords paused in their fighting to watch and listen. This one, he had something they could harness!
When his anger had sated itself, he grew despondent. He would eat more than he needed to, dependent upon those who would feed him. He used the excuse that he had no money and didn’t know when he would be able to eat again, but truthfully, he knew. He just wanted to stuff himself full of the food and drink that was being offered to him out of pity and sympathy. And when he was full, he would continue.
The Prince of Gluttony paused in his feasts and in paying attention to his new bride to smile and raise a toast, to one who would soon join them.
Pornography. He was well acquainted with his hand, having spent many hours watching pornography, and enjoying himself as the men and women cavorted on the screen. Soon, he found himself craving the taste of a woman’s body pressed against his. He showered, and shaved, and went out on the prowl and soon found someone who would bed him. And he continued this, night after night, crazed by Lust.
The succubi in hell paused in their tormented pleasures to coo over him. Some of them even returned the favour, enjoying his pursuits as they enjoyed their own bodies.
It wasn’t enough. He wanted everything his friends had. And so, he lost the shackles of sloth and gluttony, and those demons were made sad. He basked in his wrath and envy, and got a job, and worked hard. He continued to slake his lust as he began to accumulate wealth. And once he started, he couldn’t stop. The cars were newer, shinier, and more powerful than the last. The apartment became a house, which became a mansion, which became ostentatious. He continued to accumulate, his bank balance as large as his legend.
The Banker smiled. This one, finally, was starting to reach his full potential!
He was dying. He had finally managed to make his life into something he thought was positive. He didn’t have any family to share his wealth with, never having taken a wife (but oh, he was never lonely, his many bedmates could attest to that!) His cars, his houses, everything, it made him swell with pride to see what he had earnt finally, with Wrath, Envy and Greed encouraging him.
And as he was preparing to take his last final breaths in this world, he stood atop his empire and smiled. “I am amazing.” He thought. He knew he wouldn’t be able to enjoy it too much longer, but he let his pride carry him into the afterlife.
Lucifer himself awaited him in hell, a smile stretched over his grotesque features. There was a special place for this one, who had capped out a long life dedicated to enjoying all the seven deadliest sins of all. And Lucifer couldn’t wait to get started on the man’s eternal torment.
